Photogs Get Hungry, Too!: Feeding Your Photographer

Wedding days are long. Like, really long. Most weddings last anywhere from 10 to 12 hours, and that’s not even counting the time we spend on getting-ready shots before the ceremony. As photographers, we love every second of capturing your big day, but let’s be honest—we’re often running around like crazy trying to capture every moment. We’re hustling to get the perfect shots, making sure we don’t miss a thing, and before we know it, the day has flown by—and our stomachs are growling!

To get through the day, we usually try to eat a hearty breakfast before we arrive. After all, we need that fuel to power us through the early hours. But, as the day goes on, that breakfast doesn’t last long. By the time we’re shooting the ceremony, portraits, and all the festivities, there’s just no time for a quick snack or break. We've even been known to sneak a sandwich or pretzels while running to the bathroom in a few precious minutes of downtime.

So, why is feeding us important?
Well, first and foremost, we need energy to do our best work. Think about how hard it is to concentrate and stay focused when you're hungry. It’s tough to be creative when your stomach is growling, and trust me, a photographer with low blood sugar isn’t the one you want behind the camera. When we’re starving, it’s hard to focus on getting those beautiful, intimate moments. And the last thing you want is for us to pass out during your reception!

That’s why it’s crucial to make sure we get a small break to eat. Ideally, this would happen during the reception when guests are eating as well. It works out perfectly since most guests don’t want to see photos of themselves mid-bite anyway.

Now, we’re not asking for a five-star gourmet meal (though we wouldn’t turn it down if you’re feeling generous!). We totally understand if the meal you’re serving your guests isn’t something we’d typically order. But we do prefer not to have to leave the venue to find food—especially since we don’t want to risk returning with soggy sandwiches or food that’s been sitting in a hot car all day. Many venues offer vendor meals, which are often the same as the guest meals or a simple, easy-to-eat option that works perfectly for us. It’s worth asking your venue about this option!

It’s also a good idea to give us a heads-up in advance about the meal arrangements so that we can plan accordingly. Knowing when and where we’ll be able to take a quick break allows us to better plan our time around capturing all of your important moments.

Ultimately, it’s all about making sure we stay nourished and energized so we can do our best work for you on your big day. A well-fed photographer is a happy photographer, and that means better photos for you.

We appreciate your understanding and attention to this detail—after all, it’s not just about us; it’s about making sure your wedding day runs as smoothly as possible!
